Who Needs Breast Reconstruction Revision Surgery?

A breast cancer diagnosis can affect every aspect of a patient’s life, including her self-esteem. The team at the Breast Surgery Center of Excellence believes that every woman deserves to feel comfortable and happy with her body’s appearance after cancer. To that end, we offer expert breast reconstruction revision in Los Angeles.

Breast reconstruction revision is an option for patients who are unhappy with the results of an earlier surgery. Many patients underwent reconstruction years ago, when medical technology was less advanced. These women may be unhappy with the shape or feel of their breasts or the scar tissue at the surgery site.

In other cases, women are dissatisfied with the results of a recent surgery. They might feel that their implants were badly positioned or that their breasts appear asymmetrical.

What Can Breast Reconstruction Revision Correct?

Performed on an outpatient basis, breast reconstruction revision is used to correct the following problems and flaws to give women the beautiful, natural looking breasts they desire after cancer:

  • Oversized breasts
  • Misshapen breasts
  • Asymmetrical breasts
  • Deflated or leaking implants
  • Excess scar tissue or hardened tissue at the surgical site
  • Scars resulting from mastectomy, lumpectomy or IV port
  • Radiation deformities/changes to the soft tissue

Undergoing Reconstruction Revision

Before undergoing reconstruction, you will sit down with your Breast Surgery Center of Excellence surgeon for a consultation. Together, you will come up with a realistic vision for improving the look and feel of your breasts.

During surgery, you will be under general anesthesia and should not experience any pain or discomfort. Depending on the types of revision needed, your surgeon may be able to utilize the original scar. In other cases, an incision will be made around the areola. After surgery you will be taken into a recovery room and observed for a brief period before leaving the Breast Center.

Results of Breast Reconstruction Revision

The team at the Breast Center combines state-of-the-art surgical techniques with painstaking attention to detail to create beautiful results for their patients. You should be able to resume normal activity within 7 to 10 days of undergoing surgery.

Q: How long do the results of  breast reconstruction revision surgery last?
